UPDATE: Redbox To Unveil Streaming Plan Because It Boosts DVD Rental fees To $1.20 A Evening
UPDATE, 3 PM: Boss Paul Davis states the Redbox cost increase to $1.20 a evening adopted “several several weeks of testing” and was created to help keep prices “as little as feasible for customers” as operating costs rise. The organization states the “vast majority” of transactions at its kiosks involve an atm card impacted by the Durbin Amendment, instead of charge cards. Clients will still have the ability to rent for $1 a evening through November when they reserve a DVD on the internet and then get it in a kiosk. He added that the organization intends to unveil an electronic streaming plan by year’s finish, calling it “a main concern for the organization.” Davis states Redbox has seen business increase from customers who felt “disenfranchised” by Netflix’s 60% cost hike because of its combo DVD rental and streaming service, but he is able to’t say the number of people defected. Around the studio side, Davis states Vital just extended its agreement to supply Dvd disks to Redbox within 24 hours they’re obtainable in stores through 2014. The studio will get 100,000 shares of restricted stock in Coinstar, and may collect one more 100,000 shares whether it exercises its two options that every would extend the agreement with a year. Redbox’s day-and-date agreement with The new sony runs through September 2012, and something with Lionsgate experiences August 2014. It's similar handles Summit and Anchor Bay. Not for free, but in the pattern in Coinstar buying and selling it sure looks as if word of potentially upsetting news released around an hour prior to the market close: Coinstar have been up all day long but dropped on heavy volume around 3 ET to shut lower 2.3% — strange behavior on the day once the marketplaces were up. Here’s another possibility: Possibly many people were astounded by your blog item that BTIG’s Wealthy Greenfield published around 2:30 contacting Warner Bros to create Redbox wait two months for Dvd disks. PREVIOUS, 1:28 PM: The announcement appears to possess tossed traders for any loop, despite the fact that parent company Coinstar reported 3Q earnings well above anticipation. Coinstar shares are lower 12% in initial after-hrs buying and selling. The organization stated it had internet earnings of $37.1M, up 90.3% versus exactly the same period this past year, on revenues of $465.6M, up 22.5%. Earnings from ongoing procedures at $1.18 a share handily beat the 88 cents Wall Street expected. “Our Redbox business alone passed $1B in revenue year up to now and grew to become the key renter of Dvd disks by remaining centered on delivering great value and convenience to the customers,” Boss Paul Davis stated. Still, he states that the organization increases DVD the cost of rent beginning October 31, although Blu-ray dvds will stay $1.50 a evening and game titles will remain at $2. This marks the very first cost increase for any Redbox standard-definition DVD rental in eight years,” Davis states. “The change is mainly because of the rise in operating expenses, such as the recent rise in debit card interchange costs consequently from the Durbin Amendment. The amendment towards the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 enabled the government Reserve to manage debit card interchange costs. Coinstar states it needs to finish 2011 confirming around $1.835B in revenues, lower from three several weeks ago, if this stated it might hit $1.85B. But earnings per share could hit $3.25, up in the more $3.15 it had forecast.

Pauline Kael Biographer: Why Since the Legendary Film Critic Will be a 'Tremendous Challenge' (Q&A)
John Kellow remains receiving praise for his biography of legendary film critic Pauline Kael, which hits stores Thursday. Inside the book, titled Pauline Kael: A Existence at night time, the writer sheds lights on light round the voice that championed Bonnie and Clyde,"her not successful Hollywood adventure and her battles with William Shawn.our editor recommendsPauline Kael: A Existence at night time: Book ReviewHow Hollywood Attracted and Abandoned Critic Pauline Kael (Exclusive Book Excerpt)NY Film Festival Wrap: Special Events, Fortuitous Encounters and Spontaneous CombustionHow Pauline Kael Might Election: No on 'Social Network,' Maybe on 'Black Swan'Pauline Kael's Editor: 'She'd Laugh at 'Black Swan,' Election for 'The Fighter' Kellow sitting lower while using Hollywood Reporter's chief film critic Todd McCarthy to go over the down sides associated with writing it, her naivete if the found Hollywood and what didn't increase the risk for book. The Hollywood Reporter: What first illuminated the idea inside you to try this project? Kellow: I began reading through through Pauline Kael's reviews once i was around 13. She'd a voice that spoke in my opinion immediately. Someone said her for any very long time and committed great servings of her reviews to memory. I like to produce biographies that to some extent represent fresh territory. Setting lower Pauline's existence made an appearance as being a tremendous challenge -- therefore it was, since it switched out. The Review: Pauline Kael: A Existence at night time THR:Has there are you currently a biography from the film critic before? What about experts in other fields? What made covering a critic, somebody who by character can be a reactor, different then another subjects you've handled? Kellow: I don't understand that there is a biography from the movie critic to date. There's been biographies of theater experts -- Kathleen Tynan written a great one about her husband, Kenneth. Among the most popular areas of concentrating on Pauline Kael: A Existence at night time was the chance to trace the influences that aided form her taste and magnificence. Also, scripting this book offered us a great chance look around the film good status for that sixties and ྂs. It absolutely was exciting showing how the thing that was happening on the watch's screen really was, with a degree, Pauline's existence. THR: Aside from Pauline's launched writing, another material existed in archives or her personal collection that you ought to draw upon? Letters, journals, datebooks, etc.? Kellow: I'd great luck to get utilization of Pauline's extensive archive within the Lilly Library at Indiana College in Bloomington. It's a banking center. You will discover very handful of letters from Pauline herself, but she seems to own saved just about any letter she received -- even letters from fans and site visitors. She always mentioned she didn't need a biography written, but she certainly saw in it that her existence was completely catalogued, therefore i'm unsure For me her. EXCLUSIVE BOOK EXCERPT: How Hollywood Attracted and Abandoned Critic Pauline Kael THR: The very first existence material is particularly fascinating. How perhaps you have discover about her childhood, family, early responses to literature and flicks, her difficult associations at Berkeley and subsequent struggles before belatedly penetrating properly? Kellow: Research. I visited Petaluma, Calif., and learned a great deal in regards to the community of Jewish chicken ranchers through which she was elevated. I used to be very lucky: I came across her ex-husband, Edward Landberg, who was simply residing in Berkeley. He was her only husband, although she loved to confuse people allowing them know she'd been married three occasions. As her daughter Gina mentioned, "She loved an excellent story." I used to be very lucky in rounding up lots of people who had labored along with her when she was programming the Berkeley Cinema Guild, the nation's first twin art house. That amount of the mid- to late 19 fifties is among the most popular regions of it. THR: I never got the sense that Pauline was ever really deeply deeply in love with anybody. And the majority of the associations she did have, with males who've been essentially gay, were set-ups for disaster. How perhaps you have showed up at see view her emotional existence? Did she just sublimate other things to movies? Kellow: In my opinion Pauline reaches love in the beginning. I certainly think she was deeply deeply in love with the poet Robert Horan, who was simply gay. However think she felt, quite early, that love from a couple never made it. And let's be realistic, frequently it doesn't! In my opinion she learned in the beginning not to depend upon love. Her adoration for the flicks was another factor. They could depend on, and trust. I've tried to not hammer the whole seduction-of-the-movies idea too much for me. But there's no avoiding it. PHOTOS: Netflix's 10 Most-Leased Movies ever THR: You explain that in earlier years she was constantly writing little plays, tales, screen ideas she'd send to Hollywood and so on. Perhaps you have read lots of her creative writing throughout these areas? Was there any merit towards the from this? Any method that you should describe it? Kellow: Pauline would be the first to confess that her attempts at creative writing weren't excellent. And so they aren't. I've read carefully through all the pieces that survive. They're arch and full of ideas and attitudes, nonetheless they just don't move considerably. The figures just don't hold the breath of existence. Related Subjects Pauline Kael 1 2 next last

Lindsay Lohan Accepts Playboy Nude Pictorial Offer
This is what things have come to for actress-singer-celebrity criminal Lindsay Lohan; at the tender age of 25, as the media watches her every move, the onetime promising Disney star has reportedly agreed to pose nude for Playboy. For less than a million! Oh, LiLo. TMZ reports that Lohan, who recently came under fire for being tardy to her first day of community service at the morgue in Los Angeles, already began shooting her Playboy spread. Maybe the gig contributed to her tardiness. Technically, she was working over the weekend… and the job didn’t require her to seek employment in Europe! How convenient! From TMZ: Sources tell us the deal has been in the works for months, and that Lindsay balked at an initial $750K offer because she wanted … ONE MILLION dollars … to show the world what her momma gave her (apologies for the DiLo reference). Apologies, indeed. Remember when Lohan was young and innocent and fresh-scrubbed, and there were two of her? And one of the two of her was British? Yes, I’m talking The Parent Trap. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and remember: This was 13 years ago. How fast they grow up. [via TMZ] Follow Movieline on Twitter.

Joss Whedon Tweets Secret Movie Project
This happened as i was asleep, but last evening, Bellwether Pictures tweeted that Joss Whedon has wrapped Much Ado About Nothing, a film he’d been been filming secretly. Whedon, who also easily fit in the Marvel super hero pic The Avengers, includes a cast which includes Reed Gemstone, Sean Maher, Ashley Manley, Nathan Fillion and Clark Gregg. There’s a picture of the guy in snorkel gear chest deep in water, holding a martini, and also the one-sheet states the Whedon film is “Based on the play.” Appears like a modern day version of Shakespeare’s work about two pairs of enthusiasts, one wide-eyed and also the other cynical, and just how they're altered with techniques that test their associations.

You Stated What? (Hjelp, mire er i filmbransjen!)
A Tappeluft Pictures presentation in cooperation with Star Media Entertainment of the Langfonn, Krypton Film and Filmcamp production. Created by Terje Stromstad, Kjetil Omberg. Executive producers, Friend Granlund, Henrik Bergesen, Elisabeth Granlund, Tommy Wirkola, Stig Frode Henriksen. Co-producer, Benedicte Ringnes. Directed, compiled by Nini Bull Robsam, Patrik Syversen. With: Henrik Thodesen, Odd-Magnus Williamson, Stig Frode Henriksen, Stein Johan Grieg Halvorsen, Marte Germaine Christensen, Jenny Skavlan, Christian Rubeck, Peter Stormare.Norwegian filmmakers Nini Bull Robsam and Patrik Syversen go ahead and take fundamental premise of Takashi Miike's "Audition" -- the well known 1999 horror-thriller in regards to a lonely widower who pretends to become casting a film while seeking a brand new companion -- and playfully convert it into a scenario for cheeky romantic comedy in "You Stated What?" Reviews indicate this high-concept, gently entertaining pic already has been regarded as material to have an American remake, however it could locate fairly easily its very own appreciative aud in offshore marketplaces with sufficiently savvy marketing. After finding the flagrant infidelity of his live-in girlfriend, Glenn (Henrik Thodesen), an affable vidstore clerk, moves from their apartment and sinks right into a dark blue funk. Wishing to cheer him up, his more rambunctious pals, brought through the persistantly wise-alecky Philip (Odd-Magnus Williamson, in "Meatballs"-era Bill Murray mode), encourage Glenn to gain access to a webpage from Takashi Miike and hold auditions to have an imaginary movie, with the hope of landing, otherwise a brand new love, then some easy sex. Complications arise when Glenn instantly falls for among the auditioners, Linda (Marte Germaine Christensen), and promises her a lead role with what he unwisely promises is going to be a legendary fantasy adventure. (Think "The almighty from the Rings" on the "Plan 9 From SpaceInch budget.) The issue here is, despite Linda's well-do-to mother onboard like a quiet investor, Glenn and the buddies are difficult pressed to really to create the epic -- or other pic -- especially once they blow the majority of the budget on pre-production hanging out. Because the would-be filmmakers proceed on the frazzled-shoestring budget, bringing in credulous collaborators and frantically disguising their lack of experience, "You Stated What?" frequently recalls the greater frantic improvisations from the title character in Tim Burton's "Erectile dysfunction Wood." And far because the self-fooling schlockmeister of Burton's pic depended around the collaboration of the aged Bela Lugosi, the faux auteurs here wager everything on settling a 1-day cameo by Peter Stormare to create their slapdash project a little more marketable. Filmmakers Robsam and Syversen artfully juggle a diversity of tones and emotions while playing mostly everything for laughs, even fine-tuning the romance that's the soft center of the pic having a soundtrack of wonderfully cheesy '70s and 1980s pop hits. You will find darkly comic touches, and a couple of gags that, within this context, appear almost subversively perverse. There is however nothing more amusing compared to gleefully crazy scene by which the overall game Stormare keeps a straight face along with a menacing attitude while carefully balancing themself atop a papier-mache dragon and snarling, "I'm the King of Darkness!" Tech credits overall are a lot more impressive than come in the film inside the film.Camera (color, HD), Havard Andre Byrkjeland editor, Syversen music, Gaute Tonder production designer, Liv Request costume designer, Linn Henriksen seem, Hakon Lammetun assistant director, Jonas Viken Oby. Watch Peter Jackson's 'Tipsy' Tintin Screen Test
When Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson presented some of the first footage from their epic mo-cap collaboration The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn to this summer’s Comic-Con audience, they also shared the film’s “first motion-capture test” — a cute video in which Jackson nervously auditions for the role of Captain Haddock with a bottle of Jack Daniels in hand. Now, the audition video is available for everyone to see via a new Tintin featurette. Of course the part of Captain Haddock ultimately went to Andy Serkis. But it’s cute seeing the two filmmakers giddily discuss their excitement over the project and their genuine passion for the Herg character. Now, if only we could get some behind-the-scenes video of cast member Daniel Craig in his humiliating leotard and helmet, we’d be happy. Until then, we’ll just have to settle for Jamie Bell in the mo-cap garb. [HitFix]

Trailer: Hostel 3 Really Does Look Like Torture
The Hostel films have never been especially distinguished paragons of the horror genre, just a bunch of stupid, sadistic bullshit for its own sake that plunged in box-office viability by more than 60 percent between its first and second installments. Still, that means it might be good for a few million bucks in the DVD market, so here’s Hostel Part III — straight to video, and straight to hell. This time around (via The Playlist), we find our hapless victims in waiting at the card tables and strip joints of Vegas — a far cry from the Eastern European deathtraps — like, actual hostels — of Eli Roth’s earlier films. Basically, imagine if The Hangover had taken the torture-porn route. Actually, no. Imagine kicking the executives responsible for Hostel Part III in the nuts for the full runtime of this piece of shit. Actually, no. Just call in sick and go back to bed. This cat knows exactly what I’m talking about:

The Steve Jobs Factor, and 5 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today
Happy Thursday! Also in today’s edition of The Broadsheet: James Bond’s 23rd may have a title… Octavia Spencer could deal for Diablo Cody… Javier Bardem may return to villainy (animation-style)… And the Nobel literature winner is… and more. · Steve Jobs — Apple co-founder, Pixar patron saint and all-around visionary — lost his battle with pancreatic cancer Wednesday at age 56. Countless tributes followed, with everyone from George Lucas to Mark Zuckerberg to Steven Spielberg and many more paying their respects. Apple invited comments from the public at rememberingsteve@apple.com. Filmmakers cited his influence on digital editing (and thus much of the last decade of microbudget and independent cinema). Nikki Finke speculated about a biopic. And it’s only getting started for arguably the most influential American of the last quarter-century. Thoughts? [NYT] · Here’s some pretty compelling evidence that the next, Sam Mendes-directed James Bond film will be titled Skyfall: 15 domain-name registrations linking the franchise, the title and Sony Pictures. Do with that that what you will. [Fusible via THR] · Just when you thought Javier Bardem could never possibly have a more frightening bad-guy visage than he did in No Country For Old Men, the Oscar-winner is in discussions to voice the villain in the imminent sequel to Universal’s animated hit Despicable Me. [THR] · Oscar hopeful Octavia Spencer may join Diablo Cody’s untitled directorial debut (formerly known as Lamb of God) as a casino card dealer; Julianne Hough and Russell Brand also star. [Variety] · Today in migraine-inducing bullshit, how about this: “Reality star John Devenanzio, who says he is popularly known in the entertainment world as Johnny Bananas, has gone ahead with threats and sued the producers of the recently completed HBO series, Entourage.” Because apparently there was a bit character last season named Johnny Bananas. Or something. Maybe this is what really killed Steve Jobs: The idea that the culture he helped steward to unprecedented levels of creativity and access could be even momentarily hijacked by a “remarkably vague” lawsuit from a guy who calls himself Johnny Bananas. Think about it. [THR, Esq.] · Those homers at the Nobel Institute awarded this year’s literature prize to Swedish compatriot Tomas Transtromer, the 80-year-old poet also known as “the Susan Lucci of the Nobels” for his decade-plus wait for recognition. Amazing Race's Ethan and Jenna: We Prefer Survivor
Ethan and Jenna Former Survivor champs Ethan Zohn and Jenna Morasca emerged very short around the Amazing Race 19, becoming among the first two teams to find the boot within the show's first double elimination. The axing, ironically, came on the leg that involved charitable organisation. "I believe should you needed to locate one positive thing that happened is it was okay that people left giving money to charitable organisation," Zohn, who co-founded the nonprofit Grassroot Soccer that encourages Aids/Helps education, informs TVGuide.com. The relaxation from the Indonesian leg demonstrated to become a nightmare for that couple, who had been hampered with a bad cabbie and also the stealth clue in the orphanage following the Detour. Will they think the twist was fair? See the things they say:Amazing Race's Phil Keoghan: We now have probably the most competitive cast yetYou were in eighth place the majority of the leg, which is sufficient to manage. Where made it happen all fail? Whenever you left the clue in the Detour? In the orphanage?Jenna: Funny enough because it is, our cab driver got us very, very, very lost about each time i was within the cab. We wasted a minimum of an hour or so . 5 driving within the cab. We needed to have a similar driver the entire day, therefore we were really screwed. ... Which was our No. 1 reservation starting the race - heading out due to something from our control, and that is precisely what happened. ... [We could not change cabs] since there were not any on the street. I'm not sure whether it works in a different way there, like you need to demand them, however it wasn't like NY City. ... And also the clue - it had been simply with a pile of garments. It had been literally about a minute from the cab. It did not affect [the end result] whatsoever. What have you think about the additional clue in the orphanage?Jenna: It had been interesting to possess a clue say one factor and also the sign say another. On our clue, it stated to show in most the cash you elevated for that orphanage. I believed that meant our foreign money, therefore we completed our foreign money, the money we had not elevated. We simply stored our very couple of U.S. dollars, that was like $20. We did not know around the race they would provide you with a clue should you did a problem. [Laughs] But when they are offering clues whenever you do stuff wrong, it's difficult to determine should you choose a problem or right.Ethan: [It was for] drama. I suppose it had been to confuse us. I am talking about, when eight from 11 teams obtain a clue wrong, it's tricky. Usually in a other situation, whenever you perform a challenge properly, you receive a clue.Which means you did not have any extra clue after handing within the relaxation of the money?Ethan: No. We essentially went to the orphanage, gave them the relaxation and went completely back [towards the Pit Stop]. ... It had been most likely miles . 5.The additional clue wasn't in Race colors. Do you consider this is exactly why lots of you did not notice it?Ethan: Yeah, it had been just on the whitened sheet of paper inside a frame. You take inside, all of the orphans are singing and they are entertaining for you personally, and you are in this hurry that you are basing your final decision around the clue that you are given, therefore we completed all of our converted money, got an idea and went towards the pad.Jenna: Yeah, and so everybody knows, it had not been underlined also it wasn't layed out in red-colored. I understand that individuals saw that on television, but that is not the way we first viewed it.Drop Preview: Get scoop on all of your favorite coming back showsYou reached the Pit Stop the very first time in ninth place. Are you aware in which you were at that time?Ethan: I was really in eighth. They demonstrated the Las vegas showgirls checking in before us, that was not accurate.Jenna: Yeah, and that we did not fully realize where i was, but we had Ernie and Cindy, and also the twins running back. Ethan was like, "We must've done a problem.Inch But we did not [speak with them] because you are in this hurry you don't have time for you to breathe, which means you just run as quickly as you are able to. And that we were creating an enormous time deficit due to our cab, therefore we most likely composed twenty minutes from the hour and half an hour i was behind due to the cab. ... By running full speed, i was most likely a few minutes behind [Amani and Marcus] ultimately.[Editor's note: Kaylani and Lisa, the Las vegas showgirls, were proven coming in tenth. Laurence and Zac were proven coming in eighth.]Do you consider the twist was fair?Jenna: I do not think it's fair to possess two different clues. I'm not sure. I am talking about, I'd rather not seem like sour grapes, so, yeah, it had been fair. [Laughs] The fans can decide upon themselves.Ethan: Obtain an idea after which another clue when you are getting there's interesting. You desired to cover that you simply were on Survivor since you felt that will cause you to a large target, but have you think teams wouldn't recognize you? Jenna: No, we figured they'd recognize us and that we figured when they did, we'd just understate it making it not this type of large deal and say it had been a very long time ago. ... We spoken to everyone about this. Whenever we remained overnight at China Airways, we rested near the twins and Marcus and Amani, and that we virtually spoken the entire evening.Ethan: When nobody was permitted to speak to one another with no one understood one another prior to the race began, clearly, we are thinking individuals are thinking of getting you lower and everyone's searching one another over. But when the race began and that we met everybody, we did not think we'd as large of the target.Satisfy the Amazing Race 19 castHow badly did you need to win the Race after getting won Survivor? Jenna: I believe we simply desired to use and perform the better if we're able to and have fun following the past couple of years [with Ethan's cancer fight], do not yell at one another too badly on camera, that we don't believe we did. And that is the very best we're able to do. It is a completely different game and there's lots of stuff from your control around the race. I favor to experience reality shows where I've with additional control over things. [Laughs]Which means you prefer Survivor within the Amazing Race?Jenna: Yeah!Ethan: [Laughs] Me too. I am talking about, I have always stated being lost in overseas when you are tired and hungry and broke and should not speak the word what is my worst fear in existence. And that is just what the race is. There's so much from your control. That's among the greatest perils of playing a game title such as this. It's funny that's type of what winding up getting us from the race.Jenna, you may not have Medusa eyes?Jenna: [Laughs] Yeah, I actually do. I had been putting on my colored contacts too, but yeah, I actually do have Medusa eyes. I love that. I am really likely to print that on the T-shirt. Thanks, Ernie! What exactly are you so far?Jenna: We are carrying this out show known as Everyday Health on ABC. The show is certainly going very well. We are getting such great feedback about this. We'll be filming that for the following handful of days which will run until Feb. We are focusing on a magazine, we are focusing on our very own reality show. We signed this awesome sponsorship deal that we'll be telling everyone about within the next week approximately, which we are super looking forward to. So situations are going very well.
